FC5 Install stops after anaconda loads...

I have installed FC5 on a few different machines before, but never on this one. The stats:

ASUS P4B533E Board
P4 2.26GHz
GeForce 6200 Video Card
1024MB PC2700 SDRAM
2-80GB Maxtor ATA133 Drives

I had been running XP Home on this machine for the last 4 years without any problems. Now I want to set this up to act as a file and web server. I went in and wiped the hard drives with the Linux SystemRescue CD and setup a 10GB ext3 partition as well as a 2048MB swap partition (the rest of the drive I allocated to an extended partition). When I boot from the install CD, I don't notice any errors in all the messages that go by. It tells me that it's loading anaconda, and then I believe it tries to load Xwindow - I get a black screen with a black X in the center. The cursor moves with my mouse, but I never get anything on the screen. The initial spalsh screen at the beginning shows up fine, so I'm assuming it's not a video card problem.

I have tried the "acpi=off", forcing different resolutions, etc. Basically, I was just trying any options that were mentioned in other threads - each time, it got stuck at the same point.

Also, I have checked the hashes on the disc and the Installation's own disc check says it's OK. I've searched the threads and couldn't find any answers to my specific issue.

Thank you all for any help you can give.

Is there a text mode install you can do, and then after the install try to figure out your X Window problems?

Text mode

Sorry, I forgot to mention that too. I did the text mode install and it still froze at the same point - it says anaconda is loading, then I get a bright blue screen and that's when it stops.

IIRC, in the old days the RH install disk would start several virtual terminals which were available after a certain point (using Alt-F2, etc). If you're comfortable with the inner workings of Linux, after the process freezes, you might see if you can get to one of these and try poking around to see if you figure out what is going on. Looking at the processes that are running might be a good place to start. And I believe anaconda is a python script which you can compare notes with.

I am not too shocked about X Window screwing up. A text mode install freezing seems much stranger.

Good luck.
