Unhappy FC4 Installation problem--will not boot off of cd copy?

I am currently running FC3 on a pentium4 2.6 machine with on-board Intel sound and video

I have had no problems installing FC2, then FC3 on this machine. I cannot figure out why FC4 will not install. I've downloaded the iso images, and burned them onto a cd--but when I reboot, the machine does not pick up on the FC4 waiting in the cdrom. I've tried using K3b, to "edit a boot image", thinking that might be what is required...however, the program fails on error 255, whatever that is.

Please help me figure this out, and get FC4 running!

Thanks
Erhard

It sounds like the order of the BIOS boot devices has changed since your last install and no longer places the CD drive before the hard disk during bootup.

Will it boot into linux rescue using the FC2/3 disks?

Thanks for the input WhatsHisName

I tried running the rescue cds from previous versions, and they worked(BIOS was unaltered)...so...I switched from K3b to the Roast CdWriter. the cds the latter program burned the machine could boot off

who would've thought?

I have the four ISO disks for FC4 and I couldn't get the computer to boot off of them. Even checked BIOS settings. Ended up formatting it and installing an ancient version of Mandrake.

How would I go about using these disks to upgrade to FC4 at this point?

(p.s. i'm a total n00b)

I don't know if it's common, but I could not get iso disks to work that I dl-d and copied to cd via Windows. Had to do the dl and write-to-cd on my laptop Debian system, then they worked fine.

PS. I am a bit paranoid.
