FC4 empties Suse-7.0's /boot directory

I installed FC4 next to Suse-7.0 on another partition with the intention of dual booting with Suse. But Suse's /boot directory was made empty!

FC4's /boot directory is on a separate partition, Suse's /boot directory os on Suse's / partition.

Luckily I could reinstall the missing kernel and other files.

My question: Is this known behaviour and why does it happen?

Shouldn't happen - could it be you didn't notice that you left that partition tagged "format" in the advanced setup sction in anaconda?
