FC3 install left /etc/hosts empty (??)
I installed FC3 last night. Install went well. When I booted the computer it spewed a warning that it couldn't identify itself (or something like that). I determined that there was no entry in the /etc/hosts for localhost or loopback. I created an entry (127.0.0.1 localhost) and rebooted. Computer booted without complaint. Makes me wonder what else might be messed up. Has anyone else had an empty /etc/hosts after installing FC3? Any idea what might have happened? Should I worry about the rest of the installation?

FC3 loopback
hello km4hr
I had the same thing when installing it on a laptop. This was the FC3 dvd that came with the book FC3 Unleashed. When I saw there was a problem, I did what you did. That installation didn't stay on the laptop. FC3 felt sluggish compared to Slackware, so I reinstalled Slack. When I put FC3 on another computer using the CDROMs, there was no problem. It's still on that box which belongs to my wife. She likes it. : ) |
