FC3 cd1 not autoboot

Hi guys,
I bought a set of 4 CD for FC3 from the road side, but the 1st cd does not autoboot.
I can use my FC1 boot disk to get to mount the cd,
How do I install FC3 from there?

Searched this forum ,but no clue.
Thanks in advance
Tanm

Check your BIOS settings to make sure that the CD is on the bootable devices list, preferably before the hard drive(s).

If you need another FC3 CD to test the booting, download the FC3 Rescue CD, which is tiny by comparison.

If you are already knowledgeable about grub and have some prior linux experience, you can make the hard disk “installation” bootable by copying a grub.conf setup and the installation kernel to a partition on the hard drive.

This is somewhat explained in “How-to: Boot install from HardDisk” ( http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=2280 ). The explanation is for a hard drive already containing linux, but it should be doable on a bare drive.

This is not something I have ever needed to do, so I cannot help you with the practical details, but it is conceptually straightforward. This is not something that someone new to linux should try to do.

Hi WhatsHisName,
I manage to use the pxe method to start up , but stuck with the " cannot find the installation image (iso9660)".
What images is it? there is a boot.iso under isolinux folder.

Any help?

Thanks for your reply

It’s probably just referring to not being able to find the CD iso images. The iso9660 just refers to the file system used on typical CDs.

You may need to copy the CD iso images to the hard disk (see the RHEL4 Installation Manual section “2.6. Preparing for a Hard Drive Installation” ( http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/e...d-install.html ) ).

Since you are having some problems with the hard disk installation boot, you might also want to look at section “2.4.1. Alternative Boot Methods”, with particular emphasis on using the USB flash drive method ( http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/e...-STEPS-ALTBOOT ).
