fc2 installation probs

Hi all. Attempting an install of FC2 with odd results. A second or so after hitting enter to go into graphical setup message the system reboots with no error messages. Also tried booting of slax cd and it hangs when detecting IDE devices and similar things happens with FreeBSD 5. Here are my system specs:

P4 2.8 Prescott with HT
Asus P4P800SE (i865)
1024MB Kingston CL2.5
Seagate 200GB PATA
LG DVD GSA-4120B

I've read a few threads with similar model DVD drives with same problems but no solutions. I've tried all different IDE configurations with the above devices. I suspect if I throw another DVD/CD drive in it'll go through. Help would be greatly appreciated.
