Question FC2 fresh install hangs at 'GRUB' prompt

I just installed FC2 on an athlon with 256MB RAM, single 40GB hd. The install went smoothly, all CDs passed the error check prior to the install. After it finishes the installation and it reboots, the system immediately goes to a text prompt: GRUB and sits there. I can't type anything, and can't figure out how to get past that point. I've installed three times with the same results. I'm pretty much taking all the defaults during the install and tell the install to wipe out all partitions and do a complete install with the install automatically setting up the drive. Any help is greatly appreciated.

have you got a dual boot system, i.e. is windows installed on your harddrive?
have you tried already to set up the partition table on your own?
another opportunity would be not to install grub, but to boot from a floppy disk.

No, not a dual boot system. The only thing on this system should be FC2 (it had XP on it before, but I told the install to delete all partitions).

Is this fixable? I'm stuck!

sorry, can't persuade you that it will be fixable :-(
but if i where you i would check out the two possibilities you've got in my opinion:
1. do a complete new install and set up the partition table on your own, not taking the defaults from fedora.
2. do not install grub, but write the bootloader to a floppy disk, if you can do so.
then boot from floppy and try to set up grub on your own.
