errors with mozilla

Hello !,
I am new to FC-3. while going through forums, found about installing java and installed java (JRE) j2re1.4.2_04. The next time i logged in, FC-3 did not start properly, citing configuration errors. Even the panel disappeared and i could not logout. I had to manually shut it off.
Restarted, logged in as root and reinstalled mozilla(1.7) using yum and also JRE. this time things were fine but on clicking the mozilla icon on the panel it says something like "configuration error please reconfigure". But in the terminal when i type mozilla, the browser is opened. Assuming that icon was referring to the older mozilla (perhaps 1.6). i remove it from panel and try to add the icon again to the panel and also the start menu.
I opened Menu edit and added a new icon with run application as mozilla. Now when i click mozilla on the start menu, it does open the mozilla web browser but along with it another process begins in the status bar ( ie the bottom of the screen). This application is something like the sand timer ( in windows when u click any appl. there is timer(with sand flowing up and down) along with the mouse pointer which means that "wait the appl. is being opened"). When i click this nothing is opened. This vanishes after sometime.

Q1. why does this sand flowing timer appear every time i open mozilla from start menu and not when i open mozilla from the terminal? is this an initiation of the java?

Q2. How do i add mozilla to the start menu and panel. from where should i add the "command" in the menu editor .In MS windows we have the say mozilla.exe in the mozilla folder so we create a short cut for that it is enough) but in FC3 mozilla is located in more than one place in /usr.

Needed assistance.

To find out where the executable mozilla is, you can always

which mozilla
whereis mozilla

To add a shortcut to the panel, right click on it and choose "Add to panel..."
