error loading operating system

Hi!
I installed Fedora 4 on a separate hard disk to have a dual booting system.
The is that after the reboot the system can't be loaded. What can be the problem?
Thanks

so that's the very first thing that it says? How can it possibly be the first thing when you can somehow still boot to windows? clearly you have a bootloader before it or something.

I thought... it's that I should install Grub on external HD and not on the other? if it's so, how can I do it? anaconda doesn't ask me where to instal it

I have the same/similar problem.

Pre-install:
2 SATA 160GB HD - Windows XP
1 UDE 40GB - blank for Fedora 5 install

Installed with DVD

I reached the end of the install procss, DVD ejected, selected Reboot. XP boots up. I went to the BIOS settings and changed the boot disk to the 40GB disk I'd just installed fedora5 on and I got the error "Error loading operating system".

Any ideas?

You still need to boot from the hdd that has the bootloader installed on it. Where did you choose to install the bootloader when you installed Fedora? If you said to put it in the MBR, then it should have found your Windows installation and added it to the boot menu.
