DVD Boot problem

Hi

I have a DVD based version of Fedora (Linux Format) and wish to boot from floppy (DVD is second drive on IDE so will not boot itself)

Does anyone know a way of creating a boot image which fits on a single floppy disc

"Does anyone know a way of creating a boot image which fits on a single floppy disc"

There should be a boot image on the DVD which you can transfer to a floppy using the dd command. Assuming that you mount the DVD on /mnt/dvd then the command would be similar to:

dd if=/mnt/dvd/images/bootdisk.img of=/dev/fd0

You should be able to boot from the dvd provided you change the settings in your bios. To edit bios : just after switching on (have your monitor warmed up not to miss that !) push the 'del' key (that's 'del' for Award bioses but o.w. look for clues on the bottom of the screen).
Boot sequence is often on the 2nd page. Select cdrom first using PgUp/PgDown ; hd 2nd. Floppy : that's your call.
Quit and Save . (And take care not to change anything else if you don't know what it means ! ). And if you'd ever messed up you can always exit without saving changes.

The boot image file on the DVD will not fit on a floppy (well not mine anyway) I may try to change BIOS but in the past it has not been successful

Thanks for your help

i had the same configuration and could not boot from dvd...

i put my dvd drive as the primary on the ide chain, set the bios to boot from floppy first, dvd second, and hard drive third.

popped the dvd in the drive, powered completely down, then restarted the PC. It booted from dvd and i now have fedora installed.

the reason i say power completely down is that, even after the adjustments to the dvd drive above, i just couldn't get the PC to boot from the dvd drive with a warn reboot.... had to be started from completely off.
