I installed Fedora 9 on a dell xps M1210 and all seemed to be working well untill I accepted installation of the latest security updates from fedora. Now on boot I am getting 'Checking filesystems fsck.ext3: Unable to resolve 'UUID=22707372-1251-446b-b34d-c1fdb64510a6' [FAILED] and I get dropped to a Repair shell. When I check /etc/fstab I see that it is the UUID for /home. Here are the UUID entries in the /etc/fstab:

UUID=7a1fc303-3c16-4938-9166-5338f90d15be / ext3 defaults 1 1
UUID=22707372-1251-446b-b34d-c1fdb64510a6 /home ext3 defaults 1 2
UUID=36257b47-2a6c-4b15-a452-795ada32af51 /boot ext3 defaults 1 2
UUID=6e005ef7-77db-416c-9d9a-618acb1c30bf swap swap defaults 0 0

Running blkid I get:

There does not seem to be a link in /dev/disk/by-uuid
(Repair filesystem) 3 # ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid
total 0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 2008-12-07 10:25 36257b47-2a6c-4b15-a452-795ada32af51 -> ../../sda1

I am a lost noop so please help. I searched the forum for threads that could help but no one seemed to be having the same issue

I detest both UUID and LABEL, but maybe you should try the latter in fstab.
Personally I always (still) use the old /dev/... nomenclature. Everywhere.

Thanks I tried that but when I tried to write to /etc/fstab using vi I got the error:
E303: Unable to open swap file for "/etc/fstab", recovery impossible
and I can't write to the file
