Am I missing the memo on installing Fedora Core distros? The first linux distribution I ever played with was FC1, but since that time every new version I've gotten my hands on has had some issue installing. As a result I've become a Mandriva/SUSE user.

I've gotten my hands on a copy of FC5 on DVD. (Came with an issue of Linux Pro so there shouldn't be any issue with a bad burn. And passes the media test on the DVD.)
once again, I get some strange problem when I try to actually install. When anaconda tries to read the packages, it comes back with an error saying that it can't read the package metadata and has run out of mirrors.

Anybody have any words of advice? This is becoming a very frustrating issue.

I am having the exact same problem trying to install off the FC5 DVD.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I don't really know what the problem is, but it has literally been every FC distro I've gotten my hands on, both CD based and DVD based. And even one attempted network install but apparently that's usually a bit of a shot in the dark anyways. I would really like to use FC5. And these install issues totally sour me on the whole operation.

For now, I'm a die hard mandriva user. And will remain so until someone puts out a distro I can work with.

Well I fixed the problem by installing FC5 off the hard drive. Must be a problem with the way we are burning the DVD, or maybe our dvd burners themselves. Try installing it off the harddrive.

I had the same problem. I tried several different burners and 2 different downloads of the iso. The iso's passed the sha1sum checks and media checks, but faild in different places. I downloaded the CD iso's and everything was good. One tip, burn as slow as the burner will let you, and the burn if you can. A hard drive install is also another great idea. Mabey a Knoppix disk can help with some things.
