I'm hoping somebody can help me out with this one.
I have a dual-boot Athlon 64 bit machine, with WinXP Pro and Fedora 6 installed. I am about to upgrade the Fedora release, but I get a message at the start of the process saying, "Due to system changes, your boot loader configuration can not be automatically updated."
I am using grub to select the OS at boot time.
What is the best way to deal with this? I need to make sure I do not trash my ability to boot into Windows as a result of the upgrade.
Can I manually configure grub after the upgrade is complete?
Many thanks for all comments.

Yes. I would make a copy of your grub.conf file (or menu.lst, I think Fedora uses grub.conf) somewhere that won't be erased (like a thumb drive). Then after you've upgraded, if it doesn't have a windows menu, you can just add the section from the old grub.conf file to the new one.

I'm also wondering WHY this error message appears to begin with. Chainloading into WinXP via grub is a typical situation, and that is how my system is set up. I'm wondering if something under WinXP has modified the MBR, thus making it look "changed" to the installer...
Nothing so esoteric I would think. FC7 would be about the time they went to using labels instead of device names.
No big deal - do the upgrade, fix the config.
(note: I'm not a Fedora user)
alamsyah just install Fedora 8 on your box, as they are not supporting 7 with updates once 9 comes out (which should be soon). Stick another 256 in your system if you can, ram for that should be really cheap now.
