At install always enter text mode

Hi,

I'm trying to install Fedora Core on a new HP Server. I get the boot setup and press enter-key for installing in graphical mode.

The installation starts loading and hangs for a couple of seconds at "/sbin/loader" and than I always get the textual installation mode.

I tried with FC5, FC6, FC7 and Centos5.

I googled this issue and I always got the solution with acpi=off, noacpi, ..., but this also doesn't work.
I type 'linux acpi=off' or another combination, but the kernel still loads completly the same.

Any help would be helpful...
Thx

When it says "starting Anaconda" after asking you for your keyboard type, IP information (if you are doing a network based install etc), what does it say about discovered devices? It should say something about finding a mouse and a display type.

If you are getthing through to the second stage (the part after "starting Anaconda...") then the installer probably does not recognize your graphics adapter. This is the most likely situation since it is failing with RedHat family installers.

Text mode is a little tedious, but it will get the job done. Once you have installed the OS, you may be able to downlaod and install a driver for your adapter. And if it's a server, running an X login all the time is a waste of memory anyways -- you can still run X applications on the server displayed on other computers without having an X login running on the server itself.

Thx for your reply.

I've tried to complete the installation in text mode, but the server can't find my CD-ROM driver neither (in the text mode installation wizard). Strange, because I can boot from my CD-ROM and I can get to the part where the wizard starts.
