Yum update on fresh install error

Here's the question: Is it possible to run the command yum update on a fresh install of Fedora 10 and not get an error?

I read somewhere that it is not a good idea to update everything "all in one crunch"

Every time I install Fedora 10 and run the command yum update I get some sort of dependency error. Here is is this time:

...
...
...
--> Processing Dependency: perl = 4:5.10.0-49.fc10 for package: perl-Module-Pluggable
--> Processing Dependency: perl = 4:5.10.0-49.fc10 for package: perl-Pod-Escapes
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
1:perl-Module-Pluggable-3.60-49.fc10.i386 from installed has depsolving problems
--> Missing Dependency: perl = 4:5.10.0-49.fc10 is needed by package 1:perl-Module-Pluggable-3.60-49.fc10.i386 (installed)
1:perl-Pod-Escapes-1.04-49.fc10.i386 from installed has depsolving problems
--> Missing Dependency: perl = 4:5.10.0-49.fc10 is needed by package 1:perl-Pod-Escapes-1.04-49.fc10.i386 (installed)
dbus-libs-1.2.4-1.fc10.i386 from installed has depsolving problems
--> Missing Dependency: dbus = 1.2.4-1.fc10 is needed by package dbus-libs-1.2.4-1.fc10.i386 (installed)
Error: Missing Dependency: perl = 4:5.10.0-49.fc10 is needed by package 1:perl-Pod-Escapes-1.04-49.fc10.i386 (installed)
Error: Missing Dependency: perl = 4:5.10.0-49.fc10 is needed by package 1:perl-Module-Pluggable-3.60-49.fc10.i386 (installed)

Is the answer to this to only update programs that you need to use directly?

Can anyone actually run the command off a fresh install and make it through the entire process?

I've reinstalled Fedora twice already just because of this.

Any suggestions?

I also run into dependency errors on Fedora. I just install updates via the GUI and when there are problems I see which packages had problems and leave them unchecked and finish updating the other packages.
