Question yum is not working

I am getting the following error.

root@localhost ~]# yum update
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit
Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mir...-f10&arch=i386 error was
[Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (101, 'Network is unreachable')>
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: updates. Please verify its path and try again.

Please advice me on this. It comes to Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit
and stops for long.
Should I change the mirror list?
Thanks in advance.

can you go to that url in a browser? do you have a proxy to add in to the equation? This isn't a "yum" problem if you read the error message, it says the network isn't reachable, which will affect much more than just yum.

is this a UPGRADE from fedora 10 ???
Because that repo mirror IS FOR FEDORA 10

upgrades only work correctly about 50% of the time
you will need to manually remove any fedora 10 repos and fedora 10 rpm's that are installed

Exclamation

Ya I am able to go to that URL on a browser.
We have a proxy to run through. I did
http_proxy://proxy_iproxy_port
then,
export http_proxy

After I did this, the error now is

[root@localhost ~]# yum list all

Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit

Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mir...-f10&arch=i386 error was

[Errno 14] HTTP Error 407: Proxy Authentication Required

Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: updates. Please verify its path and try again

This is a fresh installation of F10. I want to install Nagios and a few plugins and packages.

informing us you are behind a proxi should have been the first post
look at the fedora wiki
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Docs/D...Guide/YumProxy
and you might want to read the fedora docs
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/
