Yum fails with Running Transaction Test, Killed
I'm trying to upgrade my FC3 x86_64 system to FC4 x86_64 using 'yum upgrade' as described in the Yum Upgrade FAQ in the fedoraproject's wiki.
After having downloaded 1.2G, 'yum upgrade' exits with:
Running Transaction Test
Killed
#
The Transaction Test is running for about an hour before it exits with Killed.
I have made a 'top' while the process was running, and yum consumed an overwhelming 1500g of virtual memory, while RES and SHR were only about 30m.
Any idea why this happens?
1.5 terabytes seems to be a little on the far side, and I only have 1g of physical memory and 4g swap.
I have tried to reduce the number of packages to be upgraded in one run by issuing 'yum upgrade b*'.
However, this fails during the dependency check.
Any ideas of how to proceed? Thanks.
PS Installing FC4 x86_64 from scratch is not an option. It fails during the installation rendering the screen unreadable - also in non-graphical installation mode. I could open a new thread regarding this issue.
