Yum errors after failed update through Software Update

Now, I am currently using RHEL 5.6, but I read that if it's a YUM issue I should post here, so if I'm wrong, please let me know.

I was using Software Update and the machine got interrupted, now I can't run Software Update without an Exception Occured error, and when I try to do yum update, or any yum command, it spews me with this:

sh-3.2# yum update
Loaded plugins: rhnplugin, security

Any suggestions at all?

in the yum log file will be the very last thing to install
reading through all the log files might pinpoint it to

you might need to manually download it from RHN and force the rpm install using rpm
-- MIGHT ? maybe ?

that looks like a python error also so python might be the problem ?

instead of "update " can you run "clean all"
Code:

su -
yum clean all
rpm --rebuilddb

if yum fails try the rpm command

I DO hope you did install yum-utility before all this
