Xorg and Fedora Core 1

I am currently running core 1 and have dual screen setup using ATI's 9500pro. This works ok with Xfree 4.3.x with the exception of some abnormalities in the second screen when trying to edit the launcher panel etc.

I have toyed with core 3 and with the new Xorg it is beautiful, however I can't upgrade b/c I still need to use kernel due to a software issue.

Has anyone succesfully replaced Xfree on Core 1 with the newest Xorg, ie 6.8?

if so could you give me a bit of a walk through on how you did it and what dependencies to worry about?
