xmms won't play the url
 

xmms brings up a url such as one from www.shoutcast.com, but then sits there frozen and does nothing. I've got a fully upgraded Fedora running with xmms v1.2.10.

Do you have the xmms-mp3 plugin (can you play mp3s)?

Thanks. I went to the xmms site and downloaded and Uvh'd their current rpms and all is well.

If you want to record internet radio shows, remember that you can use MPlayer with the --dump option.

Many thanks for the dump option. How do I set it using the mplayer gui?

I'm afraid I can't help you with gmplayer -- I've never used the GUI.

I was going to write a front end so that I could pre-set it to record and archive BBC radio shows, but never got around to it.

But to get back to the point.. if you like GUIs, Zinf looks to be exactly what you need. I've never used it, but I've heard good things, and I'm building it now. I use yammi for my very large mp3 collection, but Zinf looks best for playing streams.
