First off, sorry if this is not the proper forum; this seems like equally a Fedora question as an XGL question.
First off, does anybody know of anybody making publically available, precompiled XGL/compiz packages for FC5? I've done some google searches on this and haven't turned much up other than some old (February 2006) packages for FC5 test 3.
Failing that, does anybody have some good instructions on installing XGL on Core 5? I realize that there are plenty of docs on this direct from the XGL page, but I'm interested in something that's more "distro specific". I've seen docs on this subject for Ubuntu, OpenSuSE, and Gentoo--but nothing yet for Fedora. I know I could always compile from source, but I'm paranoid about breaking my X install and/or messing with files from packages (and devel packages) that already exist on my system.
I've had a taste of XGL on Kororaa LiveCD on my laptop and I'm hooked! I just want to see if I can get it running on my already-installed FC5 installation.
Well, Fedora works with a different technology named AIGXL that have the same functionallities that Xgl (AFAIK), but, if you want to try, there's an unofficial packages for FC5 here to get running the Xgl server
Yeah that link was what I turned up on the Google searches, but those packages are old for something being developed so rapidly (or I imagine it is). I was thinking more along the lines of like Fedora Extras or Livna--some repo that does "bleeding edge" stuff and tends to updated their packages frequently.
hang on for a bit, i am going to post a short tutorial on my blog for running XGL on FC5, it took me hardly any time to get it up and running yesterday
was thinking of trying fc4 at 1st but i believe xgl requires the latest xorg to function properly. FC5 is equiped with just that, Xorg 7.0 while FC4 is 2 generations behing so in the end i had to upgrade.
If you do a search on fedoraforum.org you will find ways to get XGL to work on FC5. I did set it up once, but it interefred with my mythtv so I scrapped it.
