xf86EnableIOPorts: Failed to set IOPL for I/O


Hi guys and gals - firstly im new to the forum..

Im trying to startx and i get the above error

xf86EnableIOPorts: Failed to set IOPL for I/O

in var/logs/messages

... this is fedora? Perhaps this is FC6 with the Xen kernel?

Did you start it as root? Otherwise: Did you use Xwrapper or xinit (which
uses Xwrapper) to have it suid root ... ? What does startx do on your system ?

You need to

chmod u+s /usr/bin/xinit

..second time I've run into this problem and scoured the web to find no answer...
..and finally just fiddle on the command line till I figured it out.
