X Crashes !

FC11-1386/KDE

I had X crash on a FC11 box.

You could boot box and get to the Login Window, after logging in you had no X to go into KDE User Desktop.

All that I did to fix problem was go into Rescue mode and deleted /etc/X11/xorg.conf and restart computer and went into Desktop after login.

I'm sure the the problem was the auto X settings changed.

I have to use the xorg.conf to set resolution to 1024x768, the Auto setting of resolution is just to high for a old user to see.

Is there anything I can do to prevent this problem in the future.

I know I should have check Xorg.0.log before I rebooted, but that was a after thought .

Since deleting xorg.conf file resolved the issue im thinking something is corrupting the file. From your post I am uncertain exactly what happened to cause this maybe a bad shutdown or a unpached ext4 partition.

Type the following in the command line for solving GUI display issue
# X -configure
# fsck
# init 6

After the reboot you will get GUI login, it worked for me.
