Would like to use Fedora, but....

My system is a:

DFI LanpartyII Ultra Motherboard
AMD 3200XP
Maxtor SerialATA Drives
Creative Audigy Soundcard
Radeon 9800 Pro

Now, with that said, my question is...

How much hacking will this require to get it to work well under Fedora? Typically this system has only worked well under Windows XP.

Is SerialATA supported in Fedora? What about the Radeon 9800?

Thanks for your help.

Can't tell you about the radeon, but the Fedora Core 1 does support serial ATA (at least mine works fine).

If I was you I'd be tempted to follow the route I've used. I made my PC dual boot leaving my XP Pro on. My idea being that while I'm learning linux if I screw anything up I've still got an OS to fall back on.

This had proved to be worth while as at the moment my linux n/work card is screwed up and isn't working, so I can use my XP to browse the forums and internet to try and find out why otherwise i'd be lost.

Ultimately I'd like to ditch the microsoft, but just now I don't have the confidence in myself. Be nice to have to machines both running linux.

Gotta take the plunge sometime

Dual booting is great...and especially if you have both operating systems on separate hard drives....THAT way you can even have a complete HD failure and still have a computer! Might need a boot diskette, but at least they are totally separated.

I need the Microsoft still for just a couple of applications (one in particular for WORK) so I keep it hanging around..but 90 percent over on this side instead!

Although I'm using IDE drives, I was also interested in how things work with Serial ATA drives....do they show up as SCSI devices? Or do thay register as IDE devices? Does Fedora configure or do you have to tweak it? Just wondering because I'm sure that my next machine will have SATA drives...

Thanks
