win xp bios boot order install question
I have windows xp and am installing fc6 i386 for the first time. I am new to linux and just getting started as i like it a whole lot more than ms os. it is my understanding that i need to configure the bios boot order since my machine does not automatically boot fedora.
please help. i have been researching for 2 hours and without any specific answers. thank you in advance for your help! |
You dont need to make any changes in your BIOS to boot linux. You might have to do it if it is not set to try to boot from the cdrom first. If that is the case you should hit DEL key when the computer is booting. It should enter BIOS SETUP utility. In there you have to browse to find the boot order selection and make your cdrom the first option. Then just leave the fedora cdrom in the drive and it should boot from it w/o problems.

Thanks so much. I will give that a try right now! :study:

did you check the md5sum of the .iso and try reburning it?

Do you get any error messages?

Well if you have your cd/dvd as first option in your boot list and yet the system doesnt boot from the cd it means the disc is not bootable. You should reall check the ISO you used to burn it to make sure it is correct now as noted above. Good luck.
