Why is Fedora 10 64-bit taking 10GB of space?

I have a dual-boot system with 10GB of space for Fedora. This was fine with Fedora 9 32-bit, but I recently did a clean install of Fedora 10 64-bit (with just the Productivity Suite option) and I now have only 260MB left. I haven't installed any new or updated packages.

The only file >150 Mbit in my filesystem is /proc/kcore, which is 5.5 GB. But this file is supposed to be a memory-map and not actually take up any drive space. Can someone tell me why Fedora 10 is taking up so much space, and how I can try to recover a few GB? (I have already deleted the files in /tmp and /var/tmp, and my Trash is empty.)

-Thanks, LloydM

How about f10-32bit? 64 bit os will take up more space.
How about resizing the fedora partition - 10gig is reasonable for today. Sad, I know. I used to install gnu/linux (RH9) to less than 4gig.

It would be interesting to know if this is consistent though - I suspect you have checked some other options - like additional guis.

There's lots of eye-candy in modern distros, and many more automatics. Doing without compiz-fusion may help for eg. But, if space is at a premium, you may want to consider a slimmer distro. The situation with fedora is only going to get worse.

Thanks

I'll probably stick to 32-bit Fedora until I get Windows 7 and reinstall everything.
