Question Why is DVD Player not part of base install

Why isn't a DVD player part of the base install? Fear of copyright lawyers maybe?

It's frustrating. I'm still tinkering with Xine... I've had a little success. Haven't tried mplayer yet.

It would be so much easier if a decent DVD player was an integral part of the core install. If you scan the forum threads, you'll see that this DVD player desire is common among users, and users have problems installing them outside the base process.

Why no DVD in the core install process... seems silly.
