Exclamation Why does PC hang when USB device is plugged in?

I have installed Fedora Core 1. As soon as I plug my USB Flash Disk or USB HP 656C printer into a USB port, my machine immediately stalls. Any suggestions as to what might cause this is very much appreciated.

Also when I leave these devices connected and re-boot the machine the machine hangs just after it detects USB devices or functionality on the boot-up screen ...

I'm very sure it's got something to do with USB on my machine and not with the devices since it's very different devices but they do exactly the same when connected to the machine.

How can I get information on the USB functionality on my machine?

Please help. I really don't have a clue as to what to do next...

ThanX in advance for any help given.
