whereis Realplayer?

# locate realplayer
/usr/share/apps/Multimedia/realplayer.desktop
/usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/16x16/apps/realplayer.png
/usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/32x32/apps/realplayer.png
/usr/share/icons/Locolor/16x16/apps/realplayer.png
/usr/share/icons/Locolor/32x32/apps/realplayer.png
/usr/share/icons/kdeclassic/16x16/apps/realplayer.png
/usr/share/icons/kdeclassic/32x32/apps/realplayer.png
/root/.gnome/apps/Multimedia/realplayer.desktop

I can't find the actual app so I can add the newest codecs.

have you installed it? I mean, those icons may just be part of some regular "set" of icons, even tough the app wouldn't be part of any regular set of programs.

I found it! It's in /usr/X11R6/bin/realplay. But there is only that one file and a bunch of lib files.

/usr/share/apps/Multimedia/realplayer.desktop
/usr/share/mime-info/realplay.keys
/usr/share/mime-info/realplay.mime
/usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/16x16/apps/realplayer.png
/usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/32x32/apps/realplayer.png
/usr/share/icons/Locolor/16x16/apps/realplayer.png
/usr/share/icons/Locolor/32x32/apps/realplayer.png
/usr/share/icons/kdeclassic/16x16/apps/realplayer.png
/usr/share/icons/kdeclassic/32x32/apps/realplayer.png
/usr/X11R6/bin/realplay
/usr/lib/RealPlayer8/Help/realplay
/usr/lib/RealPlayer8/Help/realplay/introduction.htm
/usr/lib/RealPlayer8/etc,etc,etc

and ends with;

/usr/lib/RealPlayer8/Help/realplay.htm
/usr/lib/RealPlayer8/realplay.desktop
/usr/lib/RealPlayer8/realplay
/root/.gnome/apps/Multimedia/realplayer.desktop
/root/.gnome/mime-info/realplay.keys
/root/.gnome/mime-info/realplay.mime

so I guess typing

/usr/X11R6/bin/realplay

starts your real player then?

as long as it's in your path, and it probably is. if it is, just "realplay" will start it up.

I would uninstall realplayer8 and then install the rpm you have. It's much nicer in my opinion - and I do believe it is actually newer too and for me it's the only realplayer where everything seemed to work out of the box.
