What should I need to play videos and mp3's in fedora 9

After tinkering around a while back with fedora 7 i've got a new computer to play with.

I did like the ease of installation, easier to use networking, better hardware compatibility, Nice Clean easy to use GUI, and a bit easier to install programs.

What I didn't like was not being able to play my media collection and numerous failures installing a/v players.

If I can't listen to music like all the cd's I ripped to mp3 for my portable mp3 devices or watch online videos, like youtube, or video clips i've been sent, I loose interest in using linux on a day to day basis.

I've pieced together a decent computer and downloaded this time Fedora 9.

It should surely suffice as it's 2.4 Ghz AMD with 1 Gig of ram, 128mb FX5200 AGP video, and 80 gig hard drive with a DVD R/W for optical drive.

What would be the best suggestion for making this computer Linux & Media Friendly?

Has anyone compiled such a addon? Has it gotten any simpler? With all the improvements that 7 had it was quite a nice operating system with exception of being multimedia friendly.

I would recommend the repository at freshrpms.net. Import their GPG key and install freshrpms-release-1.1-1.fc.noarch.rpm.

To play mp3, yum install audacious-plugins-extras
To play movie, yum install mplayer (for mplayer codecs, please google for solution)

well if you install the freshrpms repo you can not install lvina's repo they are incompatible
but the mplayer from there dose work if you are using the lvina repo. however if you have lvina installed just get mplayer from them

yes it is ,and livna IS the main repo .Also that is where the nivida ("kmod-nivida" and "akmod-nivida" for fedora9) drivers for your 3d card are located .
the recommended install is for livna then freshrpm's for 1 or 2 maybe 3 things.
Now you can go the freshrpm & atrpms route but then you will not be able to use rpm's from livna.
the two are incompatible.
Every how to i have read in the last 2 years uses livna , so take your pick !
