WebCam which one to choose for FC8?

Hi All,

Just a quick question, has any one got a webcam to work on Fedora 8? I have tried to configure an MSI Micro-Star Inc (StarCam Clip) to Mandriva & Suse 10.1, but just could not get it operational.

Any help will be appreciated.

Did you determine the chipset of the cam? Did you check the LQ HCL (http://www.linuxquestions.org/hcl/) or http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/search.php if the chipset is supported and for cams that work? Where did you get the instructions from to install the cam? What went wrong? (Exact commands and (error) output appreciated).

Hi unSpawn,

May thanks for your prompt reply, I shall try the links you provided.

I have tried in the past to install the spca5xx-Kernel-2.6.17-7.mdv-0.60.00-lmdv2007.0.i586.rpm for mandriva & the same spca5xx-?? driver for Suse, with out much success.(The driver was installed ok, but the webcam did not function) However I shall now check out the chipset of the webcam, as part of your recommendation.

Many thinks for the advice.

I have installed the required module from the link below and can confirm that another webcam I brought a while ago is tested configured and operational;

Download the module from http://mxhaard.free.fr/download.html
1. untar
2. make
3. make install

Zeca, digital usb camera
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0ac8:301b Z-Star Microelectronics Corp. ZC0301 WebCam

Many thanks for your advice.
