w2k recognises my fedora C4 partition as local disk d: unformatted!!?
 

Hi all, still a newbee here exploring the linux world I have been "messing" around with it for a few years, first time was redhat 7.2, I have used slackware, and caixa magica and for the last few months i have been playing a lot with redhat 9 but for the dificulty to get online updates for RH9 i finaly instaled fedora, that was 2 days ago!

Here is my "problem":

I have w2k and fedora on my laptop for 2 days all is fine i am starting to mess around with it but there was something strange that is realy anoying me, somehow, on win2k i can see the fedora partitions, w2k recognises it as a local disk D: and of course it says its not formated, on windows explorer is shows the bigger partions, i would say is "/" and going to disk management it shows me the boot and the rest of the FC partion, even its nothing serious as everything seams to be working perfectly, why is this happening, it did NOT happened with RH9, the only difrence I have noticed from a RH9 and FC4 instalations was the error on FC4 during formating step when u had already a linux sys on the disk so I folowed the tips i got on several forums and left a blank partition previously created with qt_parted, besides that all is same as RH9, also i should mention that the w2k partitons has been the same since RH9, no changes where made on w2k since RH9.

Anyone with the same issue?

Linux uses filesystems like ext2, ext3, reiserfs and so on.
Windows has no filesystem driver for these filesystems build in, so these partitions seem to be unformated.

its solved,

somehow, somewhere during the FC4 install process I migth done something wrong, my guess was during grub setup or partition setup.

I read on another forum someone had the same problem, and the easiest way to solve it was to eliminate linux partitions from w2k disk management, after that (yep all over again) I reisntalled FC and now I can see the partitons from w2k diskmanagement but on explorer no longer apears the "Local Disk D:" everything else is working fine, FC4 and W2K both on same disk with Grub all working fine!
