Have you run 'vmware-config.pl'?

This is where all of the modules mentioned in your error message are built and installed.

By default, the installer will place it in /usr/bin.

Be sure to run it as root.

If it's not there, then where did you get vmware and how exactly did you go about installing it?

Try vmware-modconfig

Interesting. I stopped using vmware a while back so I apologize that I can't retrace your steps.

Have you payed for vmware yet? If not, and you don't want to, you could try VirtualBox . . . I have found it to be more than adequate, especially since 3.0.

http://www.virtualbox.org/

The only problem is if you are trying to run a legacy system, like Windows 95.

no i didn't pay for vmware yet
i'm trying to install vmware as i want to test install mac OSX virtually
and VirtualBox doesn't support .dmg images
so i switched to vmware

i tried vmware-modconfig and the result is
Code:

Logging to /tmp/vmware-root/setup-3816.log
Icon name must be set.

so?

Make sure when you search for the file that you are looking for vmware-config.pl and not vnware-config.pl(n vs m).

I think that VMware server is the non pay product and vmware workstation is the pay only product (this may be the initial source of the issue).

Also keep in mind every time you change kernels you need to rerun vmware-config.pl to rebuild the compenets against the new kernel. You will need to have the kernel-devel for that specific kernel installed as well.

Well, first off there are lots of OSX ISOs out there. (I assume that you do not legitimately own OSX, or the DMG format would be no prob.

Secondly, VMWare will not run OSX. Neither will VirtualBox. OSX is intentionally designed to resist virtualization.

The only ways (that I know of) to run OSX is to install it natively (I have no idea how to accomplish this, but I've heard that it can be done with trickery.) or to use a PowerPC emulator like PearPC. (http://pearpc.sourceforge.net)

I'll tell you what, though, PearPC runs really, really SLOW . . . I know this from first hand experience.

Third, I don't know how your VMWare install is so hosed, but it appears that it is. I would uninstall the RPM if I were you and try installing the generic Linux installer. That version always worked for me.
