Video Card RAMDAC IBM 525 not supported Fedora Core 2

I've sucessfully loaded and booted Fedora Core 2 (2.6.5-1.358).
X11R6.7.0 fails to start (aborts) apparently due to the following problem:
------------------------
(from /var/log/Xorg.0.log)
...,
Load Module: "ramdac"
Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libramdac.a
Compiled for 6.7.0, module version 0.1.0
ABI class: x.org Video Driver version 0.7
s3(0): Attached RAMDAC is IBM 525
s3(0):This RAMDAC is not supported by this Driver, aborting.
s3(0):RAMDAC Probe Failed.
(||) Unload Module: "s3"
---------------------------
I am using a Diamond Stealth 64 w/VRAM - PCI Video card.
It appears to be configured and recognized in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf
DISPLAY Adaptor: S3 VIsion 968 64 w/2MB
S3 Compatible.
Driver:S3 legacy.sys
Version: 5.00.2184.1

I have seen complaints of this in other forums Redhat 8 where they are using the Xfree86 X windowing environment, but no one responded to the query.

Is this just an unsupported RAMDAC with the only solution being a new video card. If so which video cards can I be sure will be supported with the X.org X11 environment?

Also, the "Long Standing black/blue screen problem" (e.g. command line text becomes blue only) which was supposed to be addressed in this release, seems to be haunting my installation.

Linux XFree 4.2.0 S3 968 IBM ramdac not supported

hi,

i'm not sure if this helps.

I've been plagued by a problem that the s3 driver do not support various ibm ramdacs. This is made known by the authors.

Chances are that you are facing a similar problem.

I've posted a kludge/hack which appears to enable me to start X windows
with the S3 driver on my diamond stealth 64 video card which uses a S3 968 video chip and a IBM 526 ramdac.

The kludge/hack/patch is on my web site at:

http://home.pacific.net.sg/~goh.andrew/s3_patch/s3.html

note that is is experimental, & i'm not warrantying it.

anyways, hope this helps,
Cheers,
Andrew
