VIA on-board sound
 
Hi guys,
I just installed Fedora on my pc, it detected my VIA on-board sound card but when i test to play some music, there are no sounds coming out. please help me with this problem.

How do you test it? Using xmms? Did you heard any sound when the installer test the sound card?

i tested using xmms. also i did not heard any sound at all during the installer test.

Probably a module not loaded...

What is the output of

dmesg | grep via*

Can also be mixer problem ( muted )

Okay,

modules are detected... that's a good thing !!

open kmix/aumix and unmute everything !! ( also push volumes up )

Try again.

go to kde control center and select " arts at boot ".

If does not work ... can you have sound when you are root ?

Last thing in some mother boards jack's plug what not at the right place ... try a swap.

Using xmms, do check you've the correct output plugin selected. Since you're using OSS, select OSS output plugin .. and check the volume setting too..

how do I :
1) open kmix/aumix and unmute everything !! ( also push volumes up )
2) go to kde control center and select " arts at boot ".

Use konsole > use command line aumix or kmix

using xmms, right click you will have preferences > output

guys, i've done everything you guys taught me but still cannot hear a sound :(
please help, in mandrake9.2 the via sound on board works fine.
