Very slow firefox when playing flash

Hi all,

I have recently installed fedora 11. The problem that i have (with very fedora distro) is that the firefox is very slow particularly when playing flash videos. The scrolling is very slow and the CPU usage is very high.

I now use ubuntu and i don't have any of these problems. I suspect there is something wrong with my video card.

My video card is the ATI mobility radeon 9700. I tried many ways to install the drivers by using the livna repo and also using the official drivers from ati.com.

All of the bring the same result. The system only boots in command line and the X server cannot start.

Does anyone know why this is happening to fedora and not to ubuntu?

Regards,
Christos

I think the problem with playing flash results from using swfdec as flash player and not the original one from Adobe. Adobe doesn't licence its flash player under a GNU-like licence, so the GNU project has developed a replacement (which is incredibly slow, though). You should be able to install the Adobe player with some trick through your distro's package management (a google search for "fedora install flash player" should get you going).
I can't think of what the problem with your ATI drivers could be, maybe another post "ATI drivers not working" or something would be a start there. Include a copy of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, and other stuff people will perhaps be asking for ;)
