Very slow boot time with F8

Hi, I have a new installation of F8 on a FSC Amilo Pro V2030. After some initial problems with the openchrome driver F8 is now working. The only problem I have is a very long boot up time... does anyone else have this also?

When I boot (ie. from grub menu), I get uncompressing kernel, etc., then a "MP-BIOS bug 8254. Timer not connected to IO-APIC" error (which should not be a big deal... right?). But then it takes 60 seconds from that point until I get the 'welcome to Fedora' message and then it boots into the splash screen. Does anyone know what the problem might be? I can attach the 'dmesg' output if that is useful.

The only issue I can think of is I may have manually labelled the F8 partition using 'e2label' from another linux partition which could, I understand, cause problems with Fedora's searching for the boot partition...?

Thanks for any advice

This message shows that the kernel is trying, successfully, to work around a deficiency in the firmware. Naturally, this slows things down.

Try:
disabling hyperthreading in the BIOS.
updating the BIOS

Booting with noapic.

Simon,

I have tried updating the BIOS, no joy there (and not likely to change anytime soon). I will try your other suggestions. Thanks very much for your reply. It is very much appreciated.
