Do you not understand how to use Google?

mickeyboa 09-06-2007 10:55 AM

yes, I sure do, that's why Im here as a last resort

So searching for obvious terms like "alien rpm deb" didn't help?

With over 700 posts, you should be able to resolve a simple question like this on your own.

mickeyboa 09-06-2007 11:21 AM

Then why do you have 1,124 Posts ??
Look I don't want to be argumental with you, but so much of the Linux info
on google is outdated and doesn't apply to later releases of Fedora and
you have to resort to LinuxQuestions to get latest info.
Fedora changes very much at each release.

Doing a google search for 'alien man page', I found this page, though it didn't say what version of alien it's from.

Here's a few excerpts:

PACKAGE FORMAT NOTES

rpm For converting to and from rpm format the Red Hat Package Manager must be installed.

OPTIONS

alien will convert all the files you pass into it into all the output types you specify. If no output type is specified, it defaults to converting to deb format.

file [...]
The list of package files to convert.

-d
, --to-deb Make debian packages. This is the default.

-r, --to-rpm Make rpm packages.

EXAMPLES

Here are some examples of the use of alien:

alien --to-rpm package.deb
Convert the package.deb into a package.rpm

Thanks sleepyEDB, I didn't do a 'alien man page' search so that's why I didn't see what you did.
But I will surely remember that search term in future searches.

Thanks again
Jim
