USB 3 doesn't work!


I recently switched to Fedora 15 but my USB 3 port doesn't work and I'm a beginner. Can anyone help me fix this?

Could you provide us with some details about the hardware you're using please?
Also, open a terminal and type

Hello,

Can you please tell us what kind of computer you are using, and what kind of devices you are trying to use on your system? Can you also run the following code right before you plug your device in, then plug it in and paste any output you get?

One last thing... Have you tried using any other USB dongles that are not 3.0?

It's a laptop (ASUS N43JQ) and I'm trying to connect an External Hard drive to my system. Here's the output I get:

Yes I tried, i can connect it through USB 2.0 but i think it has problems too, recognizing the device through USB 2.0 is not impossible like USB 3.0 but it is so time consuming.


+ The laptop or External Hard drive have no hardware problems because they act just fine in Windows.

Run the following:

lspci -vv
You may be able to see the IRQ being used in that list. I am more going on either a hardware failure, bad drivers, failing hardware etc.... Also run the following:

cat /proc/interrupts
Look for that IRQ within your registered interrupts and try to locate the device, even shutting down and removing one device at a time, as it just might be failing hardware, like a hard drive, DVD drive, controller, etc.... Speaking of which, are you drives connected via SATA or IDE?

From your comment that you can get the drive to work on the USB 2 port(s), I'd guess that you are aware that not all your ports are USB 3 capable, but, for the record, did you verify that you'd tried the device in a "real" USB 3 port? (Sometimes the simplest things are what we forget to check.)

Can you use a USB 2 device in the USB 3 port? If not, I'd suspect that you've got a hardware failure.

BTW I entered these commands after i connected the Hard drive.
+ Well, I'm not sure that they don't have hardware problem, because they act fine on Windows, and my hard drives work fine on other lap tops with USB 3.

Yes! One of my ports are USB 3.0 and I'm sure that my hard drives are USB 3.0 and my hard drives work just fine on Windows or in Fedora (in Fedora only if I connect them to USB 2). And I can use even USB 2.0 devices (such as my mouse) in USB 3 port. It seems that my USB 3.0 port has some problems in Fedora (Although i still don't think that it's a hardware problem, simply because this port is okay in Windows!!)
