Upgrading Fedora form 7 to 8

Hello and thanks in advance...
I'm trying to upgrade my Fedora 7 to Fedora 8 using the DVD, but the process of checking package dependencies is extremely slowly. I'm waiting for hours (more then 24h), but the process doesn't finish.

Same experience here

I have a P400 with 384mb. The "dependencies" screen starts out making good progress, but gradually poops out at 99% complete.

I "fixed" this by removing:

arts-1.5.8-4.fc7
autorun-3.20-1.1
desktop-printing-0.20-6.fc7
gpgme-1.1.4-1.fc7
im-chooser-0.3.4-1.fc7
kdeaccessibility-3.5.8-2.fc7
kdeaddons-3.5.8-2.fc7
kdeartwork-3.5.8-1.fc7
kdebase-3.5.8-3.fc7
kdegraphics-3.5.8-7.fc7
kdemultimedia-3.5.8-8.fc7
kdemultimedia-extras-3.5.8-8.fc7
kdenetwork-3.5.8-6.fc7
kdepim-3.5.8-5.svn20071013.ent.fc7
kdeutils-3.5.8-2.fc7
openoffice.org-calc-2.3.0-6.4.fc7
openoffice.org-draw-2.3.0-6.4.fc7
openoffice.org-graphicfilter-2.3.0-6.4.fc7
openoffice.org-impress-2.3.0-6.4.fc7
openoffice.org-math-2.3.0-6.4.fc7
openoffice.org-writer-2.3.0-6.4.fc7
openoffice.org-xsltfilter-2.3.0-6.4.fc7
pinentry-qt-0.7.2-14.fc7
planner-0.14.2-4.fc7
redhat-artwork-kde-7.0.0-11.fc7
xdg-user-dirs-0.8-3.fc7

prior to the upgrade. Then dependencies ran in more like an hour, so the change was more than could be accounted for purely by dropping my OS from about 5 to about 4.5GB of space used. I just picked these packages - I just figured OO and kde was a big chunk I could add back later.

The upgrade was ok, BUT until I copied /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repo from a fresh 8 install on another system, I was getting 7 updates for my upgraded 8 system (basically no updates, that is.) Of course I couldn't do any reinstall of packages OR updates until I did this - I was getting the 7 repo directories on the yum servers, although yum reported it was using 8.

I just did this and am anticipating possibly some other problems may show up.

I think that is enough to uninstall the following

NetworkManager
kdenetwork
kdenetwork-extras
beryl and all that comes with it

upgrading from Fedora 7 to Fedora 8 with these packages installed at a certain point gets to a loop that never ends while checking dependencies

in Fedora 8 beryl has been replaced by compiz-fusion(beryl and compiz have melted together)

or something like that :)

Same Problem PLUS more

I have been having the same problem with the update. After reading the advise here, I attempted to access the Add/Remove Software feature and it attempts to gather the information but then returns with this message:

Unable to retrieve software information. This could be caused by not having a network connection available.

I obviously have a connection, as I am on here sending this plea for help... Any pearls of wisdom for me anybody????

thanks! mitch

try removing the software with yum command
ex.: yum remove NetworkManager kdenetwork kdenetwork-extras beryl

login as root in a text console(Ctrl+Alt+F1...F6) and try using this command

I don't know if I used yum to remove the packages. Try rpm -e.
