Upgrading FC6 Kernel?

Hey, how do you upgrade the FC6 kernel? do you just download and install it Via yumex?....cause i did that with FC5, and it rendered linux inoperable....

yes, i'd guess you did somethign wrong with FC5 though really. if you just call a "yum upgrade kernel" it'll do everythign as needed. other proprietary drivers like nvidia's may be affected if you didn't install them via rpm too though, maybe that's what happened to you lat time.

You can update your kernel via yumex without a problem, samething was true with FC5.

I you are using a proprietary graphic driver (nvidia or ati) from livna, you might want to wait until the graphic driver is available before upgrading your kernel. If you are using a driver from the manufacturer website (www.ati.com, www.nvidia.com) you might have to reinstall your graphic driver. In the case of ati, you only have to rebuild the fglrx kernel module.

well, I'm not using any ATI or Nvidia graphics drivers, so all that happened with my FC5 was that I ran yumex, selected the updated kernel and the kernel-devel, downloaded and installed....and now it won't boot, it just gets hit with an error when it's done loading all the stuff with the green "OK"s, so I was worried my FC6 might do the same thing....was it just something about FC5?

I seems like a lot of people had problem when upgrading to the 2.6.18 kernel. I'm not aware of any problem with FC6, I just upgraded the kernel on 3 FC6 computers today and didn't see anything wrong.
