upgrade fc8 to fc9 gives white screen on reboot
strange thing happens to my FC8 ...
I have run Fedora Core 8 for some time, no probs. Decided to upgrade to FC9... yum -y upgrade (800 packages later, ready for ...) yum install preupgrade (ran this and then 1 hour later a reboot was offered...all seems fine??) rebooted. this time GRUB offers a "upgrade to Fedora 9 (sulphur) selected this, I eventually get a FEDORA splash screen which appears for about 10 seconds then the display goes white, bright white, nothing else. Mouse frozen. No disk activity. No modem activity? Nothing. Just frozen. Cannot <ctrl-alt-backspace> or anything?? Had to press power button to reset the box. ohhh err! the GRUB line added to menu.lst is: Code:
title Upgrade to Fedora 9 (Sulphur) if I boot my old kernel, all is well. Has the upgrade been successful? How would I tell? I dont think it has gone too well? |
it sounds like your on-broad graphics chipset is unsupported by the new xorg and there is no driver for it . you may be stuck using fedora 8
|
yes I thought it could be the X server.
but surely the vesa driver is generic. I even tried the vga driver too, still same prob. I could do the upgrade, then blacklist Xorg 1.4? |
