I did the torrent, got FC6 DVD image and burned it. I was really careful with the shasum, and I did the "media check" thing, it said it was OK. So, I start the upgarde in graphical, and when it gets to "resolving dependencies", it just dies, No HD activity, no spin on the DVD player, nothing. I press the reset, try text mode. This time, at the same place, I get "No Handler for yum.YumBase" and it dies.
Any ideas, please?
Are you selecting any additional repositories? If you do and there is a network problem, anaconda will not be able to continue. Just do a basic install first, and add/upgrade additional software after the upgrade with:
No, thanks you, but, there IS further news. I found a scratch hard drive around here, plugged that in, and told him to do an "install", instead of an upgrade. As expected, that went perfectly, and the system worked just fine, so I don't think it has anything to do with the DVD. It just will NOT upgrade my FC5 disk. I shudder at the thought of having to re-do everything. There must be a solution to this, right?
OK, some progress has been made. Actually, I come from things like dos1.1 and win3.1. It's hard to break old habits, I guess. I rebooted the thing, and voila, yum said 2,500 and some odd packages to upgrade. So, we have had THAT much success. Good. Now, the issue is hundreds of missing dependencies. I have eliminated all repos except for core, updates and extras, and will try to sort through what has to be done, as no upgrade will happen until this dependency thing is satisfied.
Latest news in this adventure. Actually, that wasn't as bad as I feared. Getting rid of a few rpms, had a big impact on the number of dependencies. It actually upgraded, and put me on FC6. As we know, this breaks a lot of stuff. I have fixed some of it. Need help with some. Gaim says it can't find libdbus-1.so.2, but, it's right there in the /lib dir. Firefox won't use java, even though "aboutlugins" shows that it's available. Ideas?
Thanks folks.

Wish I had read your thread earlier, had the same problem, googled for fc6 yumbase error and found that the error can be ignored, the installer takes quite a bit of time resolving dependencies (around 25 - 30 min).
(Having patience has its own virtue, so my dad tells me)
Though post at this belated stage may not be of any help to you but maybe someone else will find it useful
