Upgrade 6->8: Could not open location 'file:///home/user'
I've upgraded my Fedora box from 6 to 8 and now I experience the following problem:
When I login with a new/old user using the Gnome environment, I could not browse my home directory using Places->Home Folder. Quote:
Clues anyone? |
"Upgrade" on fedora is unreliable, especially when upgrading across two releases.
If you go to applications--->system tools-->configuration editor ... you can go to apps>nautilus>desktop and add the home folder to your desktop. Test this to see if it works. You can try: In firefox, browse to file:///home/user Open another location, and browse to your home directory. |
Well there is a icon to my home folder on the desktop and I can browse it with nautilus/firefox. However the gnome menu Places->Home Folder does not work as expected. Same with Places->Desktop. Places->Computer works though.
Also I think that there are a lot icons simply not showing right in Nautilus. Instead there is only a non descriptive icon and a link with $name.desktop. If I want to use it: Quote:

You have attempted to upgrade from FC6 to f8. Going from 7 to 8 is tricky enough. Quite a bit has changed since 6. |
From Fedora 6 to Fedora 8
Hi!
Is it possible to upgrade from Fedora 6 to Fedora 8? I have read that you should go from Fedora 6 to Fedora 7 and then to Fedora 8. It is better to make a fresh install, isn't it? |
