Updating from FC1 to FC4

Hello first of all this is my first post on this forum. I recently duel booted FC1 and WinXP on my laptop using Linux for Non Geeks as my guide (which is why I used FC1). Well, I'm pretty sure that I want to upgrade to FC4 but I don't know how and I don't know the differences so I'll ask a few questions:

1) What exactly is improved in the FC distros?
sub question a) Is the linux kernel updated?
sub-sub question a) If no will I have to update it elsewhere?
sub question b)Are there more wireless drivers in FC4? (Yes, I have found the drivers I need, I just need a kernel update in order to install them)
2) Can I update it from FC1 or will I have to uninstall FC1 and then install FC4?
sub question a) If yes, on the update site I take it I download the FC4 files?

Thank you for your advice. If you need more information just ask. As you can figure from the questions, I am surfing from my XP partition so if the response time in this forum is relatively fast it may take me a few more minutes to respond.

Pretty much everything; FC1's about two years old now.

sub question a) Is the linux kernel updated?
Yes

sub question b)Are there more wireless drivers in FC4? (Yes, I have found the drivers I need, I just need a kernel update in order to install them)
yes

You can do an update from FC1. It's a bit of a jump, but it should run okay. As always, make sure you backup your data files (on the Linux partition).

sub question a) If yes, on the update site I take it I download the FC4 files?
Yes - if you're running a 32-bit processor, you can use the i386 ISOs. If you're running a 64-bitter, choose your ISOs appropriately.

Ok, BIOS doesn't want to load it from the disc. I think I downloaded the wrong files (The FC4-i386-SRPM-disc#.iso) Can I still update using the SRPM files in anyway or do I have to download the other ones and burn those as well?

Guess I wasn't clear enough - sorry. The SRPM ISOs contain the source code for all the programs - those are the ones you DON'T need for an install.

OK update, I downloaded the other files and those don't work. Yes before anyone else asks BIOS is on to boot from CD. Anyone got any other ideas?

"Don't work"? You mean the first CD doesn't boot? That's typically because you just burned the ISO file to the CD, rather than doing an ISO "image" to CD. Most CD burner software can do ISO imaging. Look around on its menus for something like that.

Wait do I have to make all the CDs bootable or just the first one?

EDIT: Ok I think I tried to make the first CD bootable, but it just goes to my grub loader. Can grub being installed effect it? Of course I still don't know if I'm burning the ISO images instead of the files.

What program did you use to burn the CDs? What happens you look at them from inside Windows or something? If you the contents of the CD are only something like <filename>.iso then you didn't select the correct option.
