update kernel from i586 to i686

I want to update kernel-2.6.18-1.2869.fc6.i586.rpm --> kernel-2.6.18-1.2869.fc6.i686.rpm.
However, yum localupdate/localinstall kernel-2.6.18-1.2869.i686.rpm gives following message.

"kernel-2.6.18-1.2869.fc6.i686.rpm: does not update installed package.
Nothing to do"

How can I update this?

Thanks.

Well I have the same problem and can't get that to work, still wants to use the i586 version.
I've tried including i686 in the command but it just comes back saying nothing to do.
May be I'm not doing it right???
Any thoughts???
