unable to mount root fs on unknown block

I am trying to install FC4 in my linux box which is as follows:

Board: MSI K8T Neo-V with 512 MB
Processor: AMD Athlon 64
Primary master: Western digital serial ATA 80 GB
Secondary master: ATAPI CD-DVD unit
Secondary slave: ATAPT CD unit

The HDD is shared with Win XP
Now the problem:
I run the installation DVD from the secondary master. When the installation program seems to be recognizing hardware,
the following message appears:
Kernel Panic: not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs on
unknown block(3,2).
This happens very fast, and I had to run the installation several times to be able to copy by hand.

After this the system seems to hang.

In this machine, FC3 works just fine.

I tried the same FC4 DVD on other machines and it works OK.

Any help will be welcome

When booting for the install, instead of just hitting <Enter>, try typing 'linux noapic nolapic'.
