Unable to install/run Firefox 1.5 in FC4 i386

Hello - Im new to linux, and fedora core, so the more specific your questions/directions to me are, the better :0
I am trying to install firefox 1.5 into Fedora Core 4 i386, but have had no luck.
I will follow the steps outlined by the Firefox installation guide (download, unzip) but when I try to then run firefox, i double click on the icon but nothing happens. Firefox 1.0.7 works fine however (the version that came bundled with the install).

Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!

If you "cd" to the directory where you unzipped the file then "cd" to the firefox directory then type ./firefox
do you get any errors?

Success! after doing what you had suggested, it said that it was missing the shared library "libstdc++.so.5". I googled that and firefox 1.5, and found this
Quote:

Fedora Core 4 has gcc 4.0 that provides libstdc++.so.6 while BitDefender requires another version of this library, libstdc++.so.5. In order to satisfy this dependency, the compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.fc4.i386 package must be installed. (you can find it on the distribution CDs)
I then searched the distribution cds, and on the third disc found that package. I then installed the package, and now firefox works great! Thanks again :)

Good, enjoy!

As a Linux NooB, I have been struggling to install Firefox 1.5 on my FC4 Distro. After reading your post, I used yum to install the libstdc++.so.5 package, and was subsequently able to install FireFox 1.5 without a hitch!

Thanks, pbaldera!
