Unable to access many web sites in core 3

Just installed core 3 on a PIII system. It's attached to a dsl modem/router via ethernet. I can access some web sites from Firefox, but most go no where. Occasionally it never gets past the "looking up..." stage (such as BBC's site), but most say "connection to..." and never connect. The exceptions so far are the Red Hat site, OpenOffice.org's site, Mozilla, my bank, and another site or two. These come up fine. LinuxQuestions doesn't come up

I disabled the firewall, but it made no difference. I have a laptop running XP which I have attached to the same modem/router which works fine both via the ethernet cable and wireless. Seems like there's something simple going on here, but I'm clueless.

Check with your ISP and find out what the MTU size should be set to. This is a common problem with DSL due to the overhead PPPoE adds.

ok, I would suggest you that, JDA:
Go to aplications→system configuration→net →and ERASE your actual ADSL connection.
-Knowing that your ethernet connection runs well with wndz and being root:
Open a terminal and type:
adsl-setup enter
here, write your USER NAME to access your provider server first!
then, write with your intuition the next options.
Read, how to configure your machine here:
