Unhappy Two dvd drives - one won't play movies

I have two optical drives - one is a DVD-RW, the other is a CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo. The DVD-RW (a Toshiba) will read and write cd's and dvd's - the other (an LG) will read and write cd's and will read data dvd's (even rw's), but won't play dvd movies in xine, mplayer, or totem. I'm running Fedora Core 3. Here's my /etc/fstab entries that are applicable:

/dev/hdd /media/cdrecorder auto pamconsole,exec,noauto,fscontext=system_ubject_r:removable_t,managed 0 0
/dev/hdc /media/cdrecorder1 auto pamconsole,exec,noauto,fscontext=system_ubject_r:removable_t,managed 0 0

The bugger in question (the combo drive) is /dev/hdd and the working one (the dvd burner) is /dev/hdc. Both will play dvd movies in Windows.

Any ideas?

For me I have to switch drives under the config menu if I want to use an alternate drive to play DVD's. Check out preferences in Xine - there is an option for DVD playback.

That does the trick, all right. Thanks!

It seems that the device in mplayer/xine is set to /dev/dvd which is a symlink to /dev/hdc (the dvd burner). I can either change the symlink, or the preference in the program, and it works fine.

Which begs the question, though, is there a way to specify multiple devices to these programs? Or, alternately, although this sounds more preposterous, point the symlink for /dev/dvd to both /dev/hdd and /dev/hdc?

Let me know,

Kroh

Thats out of my depth I'm afraid. I dont think there is or I'm sure it would be implemented. However I'll open it up to the studio audience for suggestions :P
